(FREEPORT, N.Y.) – Nassau County Legislator Debra Mulé (D – Freeport) celebrated the grand opening of the Rising Stars Athletic Complex at the Freeport Armory on Tuesday, March 5.
The state-of-the-art, 16,000 square-foot facility features two regulation high school basketball courts, dedicated strength/fitness training rooms and a community/academic space. Officials said the space will host activities including basketball, volleyball, pickleball and more.
Legislator Mulé previously partnered with former Nassau County Legislature Minority Leader Kevan Abrahams to secure a total of $600,000 in Community Revitalization Program (CRP) grants to help facilitate the transformation of the Freeport Armory into the community space that Rising Stars is now utilizing.
“The Rising Stars mission of using sports to promote education, teach values and create a safe space for our youth is one we can all get behind,” Legislator Mulé said. “It has been a pleasure to witness their commitment to empowering young people, and I am happy to have worked alongside former Minority Leader Abrahams to marshal significant County resources to help make the Armory a community space we can all share and benefit from.”
