[ARCHIVED] Nassau Legislature Retains Consultant to Conduct NCPD Public Safety Communications Review

(MINEOLA, N.Y.) - Members of the Nassau County Legislature’s Rules committee voted unanimously on Monday, Jan. 11 to approve a one-year contract with APCO International, which will be tasked with conducting a public safety communications review of the Nassau County Police Department (NCPD).

The yearlong review is intended to produce recommendations for further improving the operations of Nassau County’s 911 system and bolstering basic and in-service training provided to NCPD Communications Bureau personnel.

“The Legislature remains committed to providing our law enforcement agencies with the necessary resources to support their mission of serving and protecting the public,” Nassau County Legislator Delia DeRiggi-Whitton (D – Glen Cove), a member of the Rules committee, said following the vote. “By retaining this consultant, Nassau County stands to gain expert guidance that we can apply toward ensuring this essential emergency response tool operates as effectively as possible.”
