(MINEOLA, N.Y.) - On Thursday, May 11, Nassau County Inspector General Jodi Franzese submitted her resignation to the Nassau County Legislature, effective on June 1, 2023. She was the first person to hold this position - one that was birthed of nearly two years of advocacy spearheaded by the Minority Caucus.
Following this morning's announcement, Nassau County Legislator Delia DeRiggi-Whitton (D - Glen Cove) issued the following statement:
"Nassau County is losing an excellent public servant who worked diligently to safeguard taxpayer dollars in every step of the procurement process," Nassau County Legislator Delia DeRiggi-Whitton (D - Glen Cove) said.
"However, I am concerned that inaction by the Legislative Majority may have influenced this outcome," she added. "Leaving the head of an independent watchdog's office employment status in limbo for months on end undermines the stability of this vital office - one that was created to prevent the type of corruption that landed former County Executive Ed Mangano in prison for 12 years."
"We wish Jodi well in her future endeavors and look forward to immediately embarking upon a regional search for candidates to fill this crucial oversight role," Legislator DeRiggi-Whitton concluded.
