(MINEOLA, N.Y.) - Nassau County Legislator Delia DeRiggi-Whitton (D - Glen Cove) has been named to County Executive Laura Curran’s COVID-19 Economic Advisory Council, an entity that will be tasked with advising County officials on the best and  most efficient uses for nearly $400 million in federal COVID-19 relief funding coming to the County through President Biden’s American Rescue Plan.

County Executive Curran announced Legislator DeRiggi-Whitton’s appointment to the Council on Wednesday, March 31. The Council is co-chaired by Richard Kessel, Chairman of the Nassau County Industrial Development Agency, and Stuart Rabinowitz, President of Hofstra University.

Legislator DeRiggi-Whitton will represent the Minority Caucus on the Council, which was launched amidst the first wave of the COVID-19 pandemic in March 2020, alongside representatives from business advocacy organizations, Chambers of Commerce, institutions of higher education including Hofstra University and Nassau Community College, and more.

“The American Rescue Plan provides an unprecedented array of tools for local municipalities like Nassau County to utilize as we chart a path to a post-COVID world,” Legislator DeRiggi-Whitton said. “At a time when cherished mom-and-pop small businesses are continuing to struggle to adapt and survive, we have a duty work in a bipartisan, collaborative manner to maximize the positive impact of these funds. I thank County Executive Curran and Legislature Minority Leader Kevan Abrahams for placing their faith in me and naming me to the Council at this pivotal moment in our County’s history.”
