(PORT WASHINGTON, N.Y.) – Nassau County Legislature Minority Leader Delia DeRiggi-Whitton (D – Glen Cove) applauded the delivery of $100,000 in County funding to support major upgrades to Port Washington’s Landmark on Main Street.
Home to the Jeanne Rimsky Theater, the complex underwent approximately $750,000 in renovations over the summer, with the major capital improvements focusing on the HVAC system and the theater’s bathrooms. County officials said the grant will help to defray the expense of the HVAC improvements. Performances resumed on Sept. 21, continuing the theater’s tradition of drawing acclaimed performers to its North Shore stage.
Recently, on Dec. 3, the Jeanne Rimsky Theater hosted “Just Wild About Harry” for the second time – a musical celebration of the life, music and advocacy of Harry Chapin on the occasion of what would have been the legendary Long Island songwriter and philanthropist’s 82nd birthday. Minority Leader DeRiggi-Whitton helped connect concert organizers with Landmark after they moved from their longtime home at the Harry Chapin Lakeside Theater in Eisenhower Park.
“Landmark on Main Street is a true cultural gem in District 11, and we are so incredibly fortunate to have a venue in the heart of Port Washington that is held in such high esteem by patrons and the outstanding performers who take the stage,” Minority Leader DeRiggi-Whitton said. “I am so glad that these resources have been delivered to our community in support of such a worthwhile endeavor that will benefit all of us for years to come.”
