(PORT WASHINGTON, N.Y.) - Nassau County Legislature Minority Leader Delia DeRiggi-Whitton (D – Glen Cove) partnered with New York State to host an emergency preparedness workshop at the Port Washington Public Library on Thursday, Nov. 7. There, participants were provided with the tools and resources to create a family plan for any type of natural or man-made disaster, respond accordingly, and recover as quickly as possible to pre-disaster conditions.
Each family participating received a free Citizen Preparedness Corps Response Starter Kit filled with emergency prep essentials like a radio, flashlight, batteries, freshwater packets, food packs, heavy-duty gloves, tarp, emergency blanket, water container, glow stick and whistle.
“Preparing for the unexpected can go a long way toward keeping our families safe and preserving our peace of mind, and these workshops are an excellent and convenient way to go step by step through the best practices in emergency preparedness,” Leader DeRiggi-Whitton said. “I am so thankful to New York State for their continued partnership in bringing the Citizens Preparedness Corps to the communities we serve, and I look forward to working with them to host more events in the future.”
