Delia DeRiggi-Whitton Partners with NuHealth to Host Breast Cancer Screenings in Glen Cove

(GLEN COVE, N.Y.) – Nassau County Legislature Minority Leader Delia DeRiggi-Whitton (D - Glen Cove) partnered with NuHealth to bring the breast cancer screening van to the Glen Cove Boys & Girls Club on Thursday, Sept. 12. Free mammograms were provided to women over the age of 40, and the appointments included a breast exam from a nurse, a mammography, and self-examination instructions.

“It is so important for women to receive routine mammograms and breast screenings to protect their health, and the mammovan brings these potentially life-saving services directly to our community,” Minority Leader DeRiggi-Whitton said. “It is a pleasure to work with our partners at NUMC to provide this opportunity and I thank the Glen Cove Boys and Girls Club for being our gracious hosts.”

The mammovan will return to District 11 on Wednesday, Sept. 25, when Minority Leader DeRiggi-Whitton and NUMC will be hosting a screening event at Littig House Community Center, 72 Harbor Homes, Port Washington from 8 – 11 a.m. that day.

Appointments are required. and mammograms are free for uninsured women based on eligibility guidelines. Women with health insurance may be required to make a copayment. Women who have gone more than a year since their last mammogram will be required to get a prescription from their doctor (if they have insurance) and provide any past films (if available).
