(GLEN COVE, N.Y.) – The following is a statement from Nassau County Legislator Delia DeRiggi-Whitton (D – Glen Cove) -
In recent days, there has been a lot of discussion about the request for proposals (RFP) related to the future use of the facility which currently houses The View Grill in Glen Cove. The current RFP calls for any future contract to expand the facility to become a 200-seat catering hall and restaurant.
I am particularly concerned about the quality-of-life impacts associated with the addition of such a large catering hall. Any facility that is designed to accommodate hundreds of guests will inevitably cause parking issues, and we need to also remember that there are homes nearby. The likely later hours associated with a catering hall could result in those residents being negatively impacted by increased noise.
Most of all, this is an issue of priorities. In the past, we have given generous PILOT agreements to billion-dollar companies that have come into Glen Cove. But, in this case, through the hospitality and stewardship of Jeanine Dimenna, The View has become a beloved part of the fabric of our community. I believe we must have some level of consideration for a successful small business that means so much to so many people.
For those reasons, I believe the scope of the RFP should be reconsidered and revised.
