(VALLEY STREAM, N.Y.) – Nassau County Legislator Carrié Solages (D – Valley Stream) secured nearly $470,000 of bond authorization in Nassau County’s Fiscal Year 2025 Capital Infrastructure Plan for public safety investments in the Village of Valley Stream.
Legislator Solages secured $228,980 for a quick response rescue truck for the Valley Stream Fire Department and $238,993 for the Incorporated Village of Valley Stream to purchase a Caterpillar Inc. 930 Wheel Loader, which they will use for snow removal, material movement, road maintenance and other key storm and emergency response functions.
The Wednesday, April 23 vote to allocate the funds as part of a $1.3 million package of capital plan funding and bond authorizations for 14 public safety agencies represents a major victory for the Minority Caucus. Democratic lawmakers successfully leveraged their votes on the capital infrastructure plan – which requires a 13-vote supermajority to pass - to end Nassau County Executive Bruce Blakeman’s more than yearlong freeze on first responder grants and other crucial community projects for districts represented by Democratic legislators.
“Equipping our courageous first responders and partners in village government with the resources they need to respond to emergencies and natural disasters benefits all 1.4 million Nassau residents – and it is especially important for Valley Stream, a growing community that has become more densely populated in recent years,” Legislator Solages said. “That is why I held the line on the capital plan until our first responders were funded equitably – and I am proud to say this unified effort yielded crucial resources for Valley Stream and communities across our County.”
