(ELMONT, N.Y.) – Nassau County Legislator Carrié Solages (D – Valley Stream) proudly joined his colleagues in government and more than 18,000 spectators at UBS Arena in Elmont on Friday, Dec. 27 for a sold-out concert by the legendary Haitian band CaRiMi. First formed in 2001, the popular kompa band was active until they disbanded in 2016; their performance in Elmont was their first as a band in eight years.

Legislator Solages joined fellow Haitian American leaders, including Assemblymembers Michaelle Solages and Clyde Vanel, Rita Joseph, and others in honoring the band; Legislator Solages and Assemblywoman Solages presented the band with an award honoring the band for “outstanding contributions to entertainment and the enrichment of Haitian and Creole culture.”

“Great things happen when we come together and put our heads together, and CaRiMi’s reunion at UBS Arena was a triumphant moment in Haiti’s shared cultural history,” Legislator Solages said. “As Nassau County’s first elected Haitian American official and representative of one of Nassau’s most vibrant Haitian communities, it filled me with tremendous pride to witness the artistry, energy and unity that filled our hometown arena, and I pray that it will be a catalyst for many more accomplishments and great progress for the Diaspora in the new year.”
