(ELMONT, N.Y.) – Nassau County Legislators Carrié Solages (D – Valley Stream) and Seth I. Koslow (D – Merrick) commemorated Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Day in America by joining a Day of Service event spearheaded by the Elmont Memorial High School PTSA, UJA Federation of NY, the Hewlett-East Rockaway Jewish Centre, Valley Stream’s Church of the Harvest and more. During the Monday, Jan. 20 event, participants reflected on Dr. King’s legacy, created care packages for neighbors in need, and fellowship with neighbors over lunch.

“Martin Luther King Day is a time for Americans to come together in the spirit of selfless service and the pursuit of a more equal and just society for all of us,” Legislator Koslow said. “It was especially meaningful to share a part of the afternoon with this vibrant gathering of faith leaders, parents and students to honor Dr. King’s legacy.”

“I strongly believe that Dr. King would be proud to see us working together and building diverse coalitions that share a common goal of uplifting the lives of the families around us,” Legislator Solages said. “Thank you to Pastor Curtis Thompon from the Church of the Harvest, Rabbi Michel Schlesinger from the Hewlett-East Rockaway Jewish Centre, and everyone in attendance for rolling up their sleeves. Most of all, I was very grateful to see so many young people from Elmont High School doing great things in honor of Dr. King.”
