(ELMONT, N.Y.) - Nassau County Legislator Carrié Solages (D – Valley Stream), ranking member of the Legislature’s Minority Affairs committee, joined his colleagues in government and the Elmont community on Saturday, June 15 in celebrating Juneteenth with the Elmont Cultural Center.
Held in Elmont’s Argo neighborhood near Elmont Road and Village Avenue, the event featured attractions for all ages, including dance and drum and musical performances by local artists; a showcase of high school artists; celebrity DJs; local vendors; food trucks; businesses and more. This year’s installment was supported in part by a Hotel-Motel Occupancy Tax Fund grant secured by Legislator Solages and his office.
“Events like the Elmont Cultural Center’s Juneteenth celebration capture the historic significance, the promise and the jubilation associated with this turning point in American history,” Legislator Solages said. “It is always such a pleasure to be a part of an authentic, grassroots gathering that illustrates the rich diversity of our community for the world to see, and I thank Mimi Pierre Johnson and her entire team at the Elmont Cultural Center the leadership and drive that makes this event such a success.”
