(ELMONT, N.Y.) – On Sunday, Jan. 14, Nassau County Legislator Carrié Solages (D – Valley Stream) joined with New York State Assemblywoman Michaelle Solages and dozens of community leaders outside Belmont Park to demand that the New York Arena Partners (NYAP) and Empire State Development (ESD) meet their promise to begin building the Elmont Community Center before the end of the year.
Legislator Solages continues to be a staunch advocate for Elmont residents on various issues associated with the redevelopment of Belmont Park and UBS Arena. He has raised concerns with state officials about construction noise, garbage, pollution and the sluggish rollout of economic development and community benefit initiatives for local Elmont residents and business owners.
Following the rally, Legislator Solages issued the following statement:
“Our community deserves the promised benefits, and I stand with my constituents in expressing deep dissatisfaction with the lack of progress. I will continue to work tirelessly to ensure that NYAP and ESD honor their commitments to Elmont,” Legislator Solages said. “This rally serves as a reminder that our community will not accept broken promises, and we will persist in advocating for the well-being and prosperity of all Elmont residents.”
Legislator Solages encourages supporters of the community center to sign the online petition in its favor, which can be found at https://nyassembly.gov/mem/Michaelle-C-Solages/story/108302.
