(VALLEY STREAM, N.Y.) – Nassau County Legislator Carrié Solages (D – Valley Stream) joined Northwell Health’s LIJ Valley Stream Hospital, SoulJoy Wellness, and the Uzo Felix Health Foundation for a prostate cancer awareness breakfast at the hospital on Saturday, March 15. The event was held to support Black men’s health by promoting early detection, encouraging healthy lifestyle changes, and informing men about opportunities to access care.
“When you know better, you do better – and this informative and eye-opening program demonstrated the importance of getting regular prostate exams,” Legislator Solages said. “This is especially true for Black men, who are at higher risk because of environmental factors and longstanding disparities in access to health resources. As with almost every kind of cancer, early detection is key to survival, and I thank Chioma Okoro of the Uzo Feliz Health Foundation, Northwell Health’s LIJ Valley Stream, the Prostate Cancer Foundation and all of the great community partners for their life-saving efforts.”
