What: In response to an alarming increase in bias incidents and violence against Asian Americans in New York and throughout the country, as well as an irrational, false, and unfounded association of certain ethnic groups with the spread of the COVID-19 virus, Nassau County Legislator Arnold W. Drucker (D – Plainview) has filed legislation to amend the County’s Human Rights Law to prohibit COVID-19-based discrimination and empower the victims of such bias to seek civil damages.
Who: Legislator Drucker is scheduled to be joined by members of the Legislature’s Minority Caucus; Nassau County Executive Laura Curran; Farrah Mozawalla, Director, Office of Asian American Affairs; Dr. Bhavani Srinivasan, Indian Physicians of Long Island; members of the Taiwanese American Council of Greater New York; and Shany Park, member of Korean American Friends of Syosset.
