Nassau County Legislator Judy Jacobs (D-Woodbury) attended the opening season of the Plainview Little League-Challenger Baseball on Sunday, April 6th. Challenger baseball is part of the Plainview Little League and is open to Plainview and non-Plainview residents. It provides a baseball environment for children with S special Needs. The children are assisted by coaches and “buddies”. The buddies are usually children from baseball or softball leagues. The adults pitch to the children and anything goes regarding running the bases and fielding the balls that are hit. It is non-competitive, no score is kept, and everyone bats and plays the field in a two or three inning game. Jacobs said, “ It is so heartwarming and exciting to attend this ceremony every years and meet the coaches, players and supporters. It just makes me feel so phenomenal to represent an area that has such a wonderful inclusive sport for children.” For information on the league please call Robvert Pickus at 516 242 1496.
