Boy Scout Troop 423 of Plainview/Old Bethpage held its’ 60th Anniversary Celebration on Saturday evening, May 9th, at Good Shepherd Church, located on Central Park Road in Plainview. Legislator Judy Jacobs (D-Woodbury) was in attendance and praised the inspirational commitment of Troop 423.
Troop 423 is part of the Theodore Roosevelt Council of the Rough Rider District. Troop Master Dave Lumerman said that scouting offers a rich tradition of skill and adventure for boys. Character development, citizenship training and personal fitness are the aims and methods of Boy Scouts and that has not changed since 1955.
“A HUNDERED YEARS FROM NOW IT WILL NOT MATTER WHAT MY BANK ACCOUNT WAS, THE SORT OF HOUSE I LIVED IN, OR THE KIND OF CAR I DROVE. BUT THE WORLD MAY BE DIFFERENT BECAUSE I WAS IMPORANT IN THE LIFE OF A BOY.” This is the belief of Boy Scouts and in a 1955 handbook it was the preface.
