[ARCHIVED] Legislator Jacobs Attends Oyster Bay High School Dedication Ceremony

LD-16.jpg

Oyster Bay High School was the scene on Saturday, October 11th, of a naming ceremony for their library in memory of their 1974 graduate, Marie Colvin. Marie was killed while doing the work she loved as a journalist covering Syria's civil war in 2012. Her family - mother Rosemarie Colvin and sister Cat Colvin - lives in East Norwich and Oyster Bay. Especially moving was the fact that the 40th reunion of the class took place over the weekend and classmates were present for the moving, and emotional dedication. Nassau County Legislator Judy Jacobs, a longtime friend of the Colvin family, was thrilled to be there and asked Rosemarie to autograph one of the books on sale, entitled On the Front Line, for her granddaughter, Sara, who is a writer and intent on making a difference in this world. Jacobs said, "I will forever treasure what Rosemarie wrote to Sara..... ‘Dear Sara, make it count!!!!’ A good way for us all to live our lives", said Jacobs.
