(MINEOLA, N.Y.) - Nassau County Legislator Arnold W. Drucker (D - Plainview) commemorated Wednesday, Feb. 1 as World Hijab Day by welcoming Wazma Wardak Hassan, founder and CEO of Afghan Americans of New York (AANY), to the Theodore Roosevelt Executive & Legislative Building.
World Hijab Day seeks to promote greater interfaith acceptance in a manner that provides Muslim women with a platform to share their stories, confront stereotypes, and educate the public about their beliefs and customs.
“World Hijab Day shines a bright light upon the importance of free religious expression, cultural awareness, and international solidarity,” Legislator Drucker said. “I proudly stand in support of religious freedoms for the millions of women around the world who wear hijabs and thank Wazma Hassan for her ongoing efforts to foster greater acceptance and understanding throughout our society.”
