WHAT: Nassau County Legislator Arnold W. Drucker (D – Plainview) is partnering with Legislator Josh Lafazan (Woodbury), the Plainview-Old Bethpage Chamber of Commerce, the Islamic Center of Long Island, Maffucci Moving & Storage and Bekins Van Lines to host a food drive in support of Island Harvest at the Country Pointe ShopRite in Plainview on Saturday, May 16.
This weekend’s food drive was initially scheduled for Saturday, May 9, but was postponed due to high winds. In the meantime, however, Plainview ShopRite patrons were not deterred from lending their support.
“While we weren’t able to thank them in person, I am truly grateful to the generous shoppers that filled the donation boxes last weekend in support of Island Harvest’s ongoing efforts to assist Long Islanders struggling with food insecurity,” Legislator Drucker said. “With your support, we can build upon those contributions and help Island Harvest serve even more Nassau County families in their time of need.”
“I continue to be comforted by the fact that our community is at its best when it stands together to respond to unprecedented challenges,” Legislator Lafazan said. “I am deeply thankful for the efforts of this diverse coalition of community leaders and their dedication to supporting to support those who need us most in our community.”
Participants in Legislator Drucker’s virtual internship program are assisting with organizing, promoting, and operating the drive. The spring/summer internship program includes approximately 20 high school students from the Plainview-Old Bethpage, Syosset, Hicksville and Herricks school districts and focuses on providing first-hand exposure to constituent service, the operations of local government, and community service.
