(PLAINVIEW, N.Y.) – Nassau County Legislator Arnold W. Drucker (D - Plainview) partnered with the Nassau County Police Department to raise awareness and protect seniors from fraud and scams during a presentation at the Jamaica Avenue School in Plainview on Friday, Oct. 18.
According to the National Council on Aging, “one in 10 Americans age 60 and older experiences some form of exploitation over the course of a year—as many as five million seniors annually.” With the growing number and variety of scams targeting seniors, educational programs are an essential tool for preventing residents from being swindled.
“As a Legislator, one of my most important duties is to protect our community from criminals that seek to scam our neighbors out of their hard-earned money,” Legislator Drucker said. “I thank the Nassau Police Department for partnering with me to ensure that this valuable information gets into the hands of our residents and our seniors, so they are equipped to protect themselves and their families.”
