(MINEOLA, N.Y.) – On Wednesday, Nov. 29, 2023 New York State Governor Kathy Hochul announced her request for a Major Disaster Declaration related to a substantial late-September rainstorm that deluged Nassau County. On Jan. 31, 2024, Governor Hochul announced that the Biden administration has approved the State’s request.
Following the announcement, Nassau County Legislature Deputy Minority Leader Arnold W. Drucker (D – Plainview) issued the following statement:
“The impact of this historic and devastating storm was felt across Nassau County and especially in the 16th District, where major intersections were transformed into impassible and treacherous lakes in a matter of hours,” Nassau County Legislature Deputy Minority Leader Arnold W. Drucker (D – Plainview) said. “Our experience is just one of the many reasons why the Biden administration was absolutely correct to approve a Major Disaster Declaration, and I thank Governor Hochul and her administration for fighting to ensure Nassau County’s voice was heard. We must now take full advantage of this opportunity to bolster our infrastructure and protect our families from the ever-growing threats presented by climate change.”
