(JERICHO, N.Y.) – During Jericho Senior High School’s annual Senior Awards Night on Wednesday, June 12, Nassau County Legislator Arnold W. Drucker (D – Plainview) presented his Community Service Award to Sujay Sundar in recognition of the graduating senior’s outstanding academic achievements and commitment to giving back.
As a high school student, Sujay has already compiled an impressive resume as a student leader, STEAM scholar, writer, and community volunteer whose efforts have focused on fighting hunger and promoting tolerance and mutual understanding in society.
Among his many commendations and community service activities, Sujay completed two internships in Legislator Drucker’s district office during the spring of 2020 and again in 2021 and assisted with initiatives aimed at addressing major challenges created by the COVID-19 pandemic. And, during the most challenging initial stages of the health crisis, he engineered and created 200 face shields for Jericho Fire Department first responders at a time when personal protective equipment was especially scarce.
“In just a few short years, Sujay Sundar has proven himself to be an outstanding student with a passion for learning who demonstrates tremendous compassion and a devotion to helping others overcome challenges,” Legislator Drucker said. “It is truly a pleasure to recognize him for all he has done to make the world around him a better place, and I wish him all the best as the next chapter of his life begins to unfold.”
