(MINEOLA, N.Y.) - Nassau County Legislator Carrié Solages (D – Lawrence) congratulated the Nassau County Detectives Association (DAI)’s “Top Cops” for apprehending the suspects accused of violently robbing a 72-year-old woman in the parking lot of the Green Acres Mall in Valley Stream.

Fifth Squad Detectives Sean Slowski and Gary Butt responded to the incident at 2:05 p.m. on July 13. The suspects – one male, one female – are accused of blocking the victim in with their cars before the female suspect began punching the elderly female victim in the face, legs, and arms until she gave her $100 in cash. After interviewing the victim, Detectives Slowski and Butt were able to track down the suspects’ vehicle and place them into custody. The vehicle in question was later determined to be a stolen car.

“Thanks to the dogged determination and professionalism of these outstanding detectives, two suspects in a violent robbery at one of our community’s busiest shopping centers are being held accountable for their actions,” Legislator Solages said. “On behalf of the residents of the Third Legislative District, I thank the Nassau County Police Department for all they do to protect our community, keep the Green Acres Mall safe, and help the vulnerable members of our community.”
