(MINEOLA, NY) – Nassau County Legislator Carrié Solages (D-Elmont) was proud to honor Inwood resident Barbara Thompson for her unwavering commitment to service during a presentation, recognizing February as African American History Month at the Nassau County Legislature in Mineola on Monday, February 24, 2014.
Barbara Thompson started with private duty Nursing and later moved on to the local government and business sector. In 1987, she was employed with the Town of Hempstead as a secretary for 10 years, then moved on to become a Confidential Secretary at Nassau Downs from which she retired in 2008.
She joined St. John Baptist Church, Inwood in 1988, and served in various leadership roles. For the past 16 years, she has served as the Administrative Assistant to Rev. Gregory K. Stanislaus, who became Pastor in 1997. Barbara's service to God is not limited to her church. Her genuine love of people compels her to go outside the walls of the church. She is known to some as "Barbs", "Sister T" and "Mom T". Barbara's broad smile and various hats (for all seasons and occasions) makes her easy to be recognized.
