New York State CDBG-DR Application Available Review
The County of Nassau, NY announces that it intends to submit an application for New York State Community Development Block Grant-Disaster Recovery (CDBG-DR) Program funds on or about July 30, 2015 for the following project: Nassau County Police Department (NCPD) 8th Precinct Station House. Activity: New York State CDBG-DR funds totaling $15,000,000 ($15M) will be used to demolish the existing NCPD 8th Precinct Station House and associated facilities and construct a new station house and a new pre-fabricated metal garage to serve as the headquarters for the NCPD 8th Precinct. The proposed new three-story station house will centralize the operations of specialized services provided by numerous detective units, which currently operate out of various "Special Units" located throughout the County. The new station house will be located within the bounds of the eastern most existing parking area and will include an increased number of work stations, file rooms and holding cells. The new station house will be designed to withstand severe storm event conditions, such as high winds and heavy snow loading, and include improved Information Technology capability for utilization before and after storm events. A new emergency generator will be installed to ensure operation of the proposed new station house during and following storm events.
A new larger sized vehicular garage (approximately 161 ft. x 60 ft.), which would include equipment storage space, and a vehicle lift to deconstruct stolen vehicles in order to locate Vehicle Identification Numbers (VIN), would be built in the same location as the demolished existing building.
Objective: The project would increase resiliency by enhancing emergency response and decreasing recovery time as the proposed new station house would be designed to withstand severe storm conditions. Therefore, the NCPD 8th Precinct Station House would be able to serve as a community information dissemination center during and following severe storm events.
Location: The NCPD 8th Precinct Station House is located at 286 Wantagh Avenue in Bethpage, NY. It serves the communities of Bethpage, Old Bethpage, Levittown, Plainedge, Farmingdale, South Farmingdale and portions of Hicksville, Plainview, North Wantagh and North Massapequa.
Amount: Table 1 shows each CDBG-DR activity and the corresponding dollar amounts for the NCPD 8th Precinct Station House work, along with the estimates of total project costs.
