About Economic Development in Nassau County
Nassau County’s Economic Development efforts are spearheaded by the Deputy County Executive for Economic Development, and supported by the following County agencies:
- Department of Public Works (DPW) Planning Division
- Office of Community Development (OCD)
- Office of Housing
- Office of Hispanic Affairs (OHA)
- Office of Minority Affairs (OMA)
- Human Rights Commission (HRC)
- Office of Asian American Affairs (OAAA)
The Nassau County Industrial Development Agency (IDA) is also instrumental in the County’s economic development efforts, and coordinates with the County Executive’s office to help businesses locate and expand in Nassau County.
Finally, with Nassau County’s tourism industry accounting for over $2.69 billion in traveler spending, Long Island’s official tourism agency Discover Long Island promotes all that our County has to offer.1

Economic Development Goals:
- Expand the tax base
- Attract employers offering high-wage jobs
- Improve housing options by promoting smart-growth, sustainable, and transit-oriented developments (TODs)
- Invest in public infrastructure to support development (mass transit, roads, utilities)
- Partner with municipalities and community groups to help implement local visioning plans
- Increase opportunities for minority and women-owned businesses and historically disadvantaged business enterprises (MWBE & DBE)
- Coordinate with public agencies & the private sector
