Legislature Minority Leader Kevan M. Abrahams:
Nassau Residents Need More Than Wishful Economic Thinking
(MINEOLA, N.Y.) - Following the Monday, Aug. 10, 2020 meeting of the Nassau County Legislature’s Budget Review Committee, Nassau County Legislature Minority Leader Kevan M. Abrahams (D - Freeport) issued this statement:
"Wishful thinking is not a strategy that will help Nassau County emerge from the unprecedented economic challenges we currently face.”
“At a time when Tropical Storm Isaias and the expiration of federal unemployment benefits are all but certain to compound the local economic harm caused by the pandemic, the Majority’s decision to aggressively peddle a sunny economic outlook in the absence of constructive budget recommendations is both short-sighted and irresponsible.”
“Around the country, we are seeing what can happen if we let our guard down in any aspect of the ongoing fight against COVID-19. Therefore, we believe that a methodical, cautious approach offers the best chance for achieving long-term positive outcomes for Nassau residents.”
