Nassau Democratic Minority Caucus Demand Answers on the Islanders Returning to their Original Home, the Nassau County Veterans Memorial Coliseum
(Mineola, NY) – Nassau County Democratic Minority Legislators led by Kevan Abrahams filed two bills today that send one big message – NASSAU DEMOCRATIC LEGISLTORS WANT THE NY ISLANDERS TO RETURN TO THEIR ORIGINAL NASSAU HOME, THE NASSAU COUNTY VETERANS COLISEUM.
The first bill first would require the County Executive to personally appear in front of the legislature to provide information regarding the steps he is taking to bring the Islanders back to their original Nassau Veterans Coliseum home and explain why he is not enforcing the lease requirement for a minor league hockey team for Nassau County. The Second, proposes via ordinance to expressly authorize the County Executive to ‘take all necessary steps to negotiate and enter into a lease or appropriate agreement’ with the Islanders organization.
Nassau County Democratic Legislators believe that re-uniting the Islander fans with their Islander hockey team should be a top priority and will restore some much needed moral for our County which is beset by corruption and fiscal mismanagement. Whether you’re a Nassau County Islander fan or a local New York Ranger fan who enjoyed a spirited crosstown rivalry – I think we can all agree that having the NY Islanders back at their home is what Nassau residents want and deserve.
