A second screening event is set for Wednesday, May 18 outside the EOC in Roosevelt.
(HEMPSTEAD, N.Y.) - Nassau County Legislator Kevan M. Abrahams (D - Freeport) partnered with NuHealth, Empire BlueCross Blue Shield HealthPlus, and local community organizations to bring the NUMC Mamo van to Empire BlueCross’ Hempstead office on Wednesday, May 11. During the screening event, patients received a breast exam from a nurse, a mammography, and self-exam instructions.
“Detecting breast cancer early saves the lives of women, and we are committed to ensuring that cost is never an obstacle to accessing such a critical form of preventative care,” Legislator Abrahams said. “I appreciate the efforts of NuHealth and all of our community partners who make screening events like these possible here in the First Legislative District and across Nassau County.”
Residents will have a second opportunity to utilize the mamo van’s services on Wednesday, May 18 from 8:30 a.m. - 12:30 p.m. at the EOC, 281 Babylon Turnpike, Roosevelt 11575. Mammograms will be available for eligible women over the age of 40 at no out-of-pocket cost; attendees with health insurance must provide a prescription from a physician, and anyone who can obtain them should bring film from past exams.
All screenings are by appointment only; call 516-764-4500 and ask for Director Mario Mency to schedule an appointment. For additional information or questions, contact Legislator Abrahams’ office at 516-571-6201 or kabrahams@nassaucountyny.gov.
