(MINEOLA, N.Y.) - On Friday, April 22, 2022, Nassau County Executive Bruce Blakeman announced that it would stop accepting applications to receive relief checks of up to $375 through the Household Assistance Program (HAP) on May 15, 2022 - a program that was launched last fall using a $100 million allocation of federal pandemic relief funds.
Following this announcement, Nassau County Legislature Minority Leader Kevan M. Abrahams (D - Freeport) issued the following statement:
“Why does County Executive Blakeman keep undercutting efforts to deliver immediate, meaningful financial relief to families? Rather than pulling the rug out from under our residents, we should be redoubling our efforts to get these funds into the hands of eligible taxpayers and local businesses. This is just the latest example of how the County Executive and his administration are out of touch with the needs of Nassau County’s working families.”
