(MINEOLA, N.Y.) – During today’s special meeting of the Nassau County Legislature, Matthew Bruderman was appointed Chairman of NuHealth by a 13-6 vote. Following today’s vote, Nassau Legislature Minority Leader Kevan M. Abrahams (D – Freeport) issued the following statement:
"During Maya Angelou’s lifetime, one of her most famous quotations was, ‘When people show you who they are, believe them the first time.’ In just a short period of time, Matthew Bruderman has showed us exactly who he is – over, and over, and over again. Nevertheless, the County Executive and the Majority rammed him through anyway,” Nassau County Legislature Minority Leader Kevan M. Abrahams (D - Freeport) said.
“Words and actions matter. Hearing him repeatedly compare being questioned to the crucifixion of Jesus and flat-out admit he had to Google the definition of racism to figure out that saying ‘good racism’ is a bad thing only reaffirms my profound concerns about County Executive Blakeman and the Majority’s decision to entrust Mr. Bruderman with the future of a safety-net hospital that the most vulnerable Nassau County residents rely upon for care.”
“We must keep this hospital open as a lifeline to the multi-cultural community it serves, and the Minority Caucus will never stop working toward achieving this crucial mission.”
