Nassau County Legislator Kevan Abrahams (D-Freeport) will be hosting workshops on the process of property valuation and how to file an appeal of the assessed value of your property if you disagree with your most recent assessment. These workshops, entitled “How to file a Property Tax Grievance,” will offer you FREE assistance in preparing your own tax grievance application and provide information on other property tax exemption programs. All materials will be provided; applications will be available. There will also be a Q&A period.
The workshops will take place on:
Monday, Jan. 28 from 7 – 8:45 p.m. at South Hempstead Fire House, 555 May Street, South Hempstead;
*Saturday, Feb. 2 from 11 a.m. – 1 p.m. at Uniondale Public Library, 400 Uniondale Avenue, Uniondale (please stay for meeting on redistricting immediately following this meeting);
Thursday, Feb. 7 from 7 – 8:45 p.m. at Freeport Library, 144 W. Merrick Road, Freeport; and
Wednesday, Feb. 20 from 7 – 8:45 p.m. at Roosevelt Library, 27 W. Fulton Avenue, Roosevelt.
(Due to Superstorm Sandy, there is an Executive Order extending the period to file a grievance to May 1, 2013.)
*Also, on Saturday, Feb. 2, Legislator Abrahams will host a meeting on redistricting directly after his tax grievance workshop at Uniondale Public Library. The meeting is from 1 – 2 p.m. and will address the new maps and possible changes to Legislative District 1, the area he currently represents. The legislator will be hosting this meeting in Uniondale because it could potentially be impacted greatly by the proposed changes to district lines.
