(ELMONT, N.Y.) - To ensure students have the essentials for a strong start to the 2023-24 school year, Nassau County Legislator Carrié Solages (D – Lawrence) partnered with Exit 13 Grooming Lounge and community partners from the Green Acres Mall, Natalie Mitchell Real Estate, the Krystie Foundation, King Umberto Pizza, Lux Entertainments and Meera Empowerment to host their inaugural back-to-school supply giveaway event in Elmont on Saturday, Aug. 27.
During the back-to-school event, nearly 300 students received backpacks filled with the necessary supplies to kick start the upcoming school year. Youngsters also received haircuts from the Exit 13 Grooming Lounge and enjoyed games, face painting, music, ice cream from Mr. Flavors of Elmont and pizza from King Umberto Pizza. Representatives from Ridgewood Savings Bank were also on hand to provide attendees with additional giveaways.
“While the start of a new school year is an exciting time, it also presents challenges for families that are navigating financial hardship,” Legislator Solages said. “I was grateful for the opportunity to partner with Exit 13 Grooming Lounge and many more local community sponsors to help ease the burden by providing students with back-to-school essentials in a fun and festive setting. Thank you to our sponsors and volunteers who donated their time and resources to make this event possible!”
