WHAT: Nassau County Legislator Arnold W. Drucker (D – Plainview), Minority Leader Kevan M. Abrahams (D – Freeport) and Legislators Carrié Solages (D – Lawrence) and Debra Mulé (D – Freeport) are partnering with the Long Island Council on Alcohol and Drug Dependence (LICADD) to host a Narcan training session in the Legislative chambers of the Theodore Roosevelt Executive & Legislative Building at 6 p.m. on Tuesday, June 27.
Alexandra Hougnou, a Prevention and Education Trainer at LICADD, will lead the training session. In addition to learning how to spot the signs of an opiate overdose, participants will also be shown how to administer intranasal Naloxone to reverse an overdose and learn about new approaches to treating addiction. After the workshop, Narcan kits will be provided to all trainees containing the overdose antidote.
“Every day, at least one Long Islander dies of an opiate overdose. This shocking statistic is a stark reminder to all of us that we must never relent in our efforts to save lives and connect people who are struggling with recovery resources,” Legislator Drucker said. “By learning the simple technique for administering intranasal Narcan, you will be equipping yourself with knowledge that may one day empower you to give a person a second chance at life. My colleagues and I are grateful for LICADD’s partnership and invite you to join us on June 27 for this important training seminar.”
