(LAWRENCE, N.Y.) Nassau County Legislator Carrié Solages (D - Lawrence) joined the community and his colleagues in government on Monday, June 6 for the unveiling of the Peter V. Sobol Memorial Bridge in Lawrence. The bridge is located where Seagrit Boulevard crosses over Nassau Expressway (NY878) just north of the Atlantic Beach Bridge.
Sobol, who passed away on Feb. 6, 2021, was affectionately known as “Inwood’s First Son” due to his role as the former Acting Director of the Five Towns Community Center, his advocacy for the Inwood community and his philanthropic spirit.
“Right up until the very end of his life, Pete Sobol worked tirelessly to meet the needs of Inwood residents. While Pete was always in the foreground of service, he was always the last to take credit, and chose to complete many of his good deeds in private,” Legislator Solages said. “I can think of no better place to publicly enshrine his legacy than the gateway to the community that he loved with all of his heart and soul.”
