(ELMONT, N.Y.) - In observance of Veterans Day, Nassau County Legislator Carrié Solages (D - Lawrence) proudly joined with the members of Elmont American Legion Post 1033 on Thursday, Nov. 11 for a Veterans Day parade and ceremony honoring the men and women who have served - and continue to serve - in our nation’s armed forces.
The parade stepped off from the American Legion post at 10:30 a.m. and proceed to the Veterans Memorial at the corner of Hempstead Turnpike and Covert Avenue. There, a ceremony was held at 11:11 a.m. Following the parade and ceremony, refreshments donated by Legislator Solages were served at Post 1033.
Coinciding with the parade and gathering, eligible attendees will also be able to get flu shots and COVID vaccines from 9 a.m. - 2 p.m. during a pop-up clinic in Post 1033’s parking lot.
“Veterans Day offers all of us an opportunity to reflect upon the courage and devotion shown by all who step up to protect the United States at home and abroad,” Legislator Solages said. “It was a pleasure to join the Elmont community and come together to show the pride we hold for our veterans and this great nation.”
