(MINEOLA, N.Y.) - Nassau County Legislator Carrié Solages (D – Valley Stream) voted to secure $8.5 million in federal funded Community Development Block Grants (CDBG) to be allocated to prevent, prepare, and respond to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Approximately $4.2 million will be allocated to Emergency Solutions Grant (ESG) programs to assist individuals and families who are homeless to lessen the impact of the coronavirus. The funds may also be used to prevent homelessness for those who meet the low-income criteria.
On April 20th, the full Nassau County Legislature voted to amend the 2019 Urban and Housing Development Action Plan to include the new HUD Grants funding for COVID-19 Relief as authorized by the CARES ACT. This amendment will help Nassau County’s most vulnerable.
“We are facing unprecedented times and we must do whatever we can do to mitigate the financial impact the COVID-19 pandemic,” Legislator Solages said. “This federal funding will help many Nassau County residents.”
