[ARCHIVED] Legislator Solages to Host 2014 ‘National Night Out’ in Valley Stream

Nassau County Legislator Carrié Solages along with Green Acres Mall, the Shanni E. Duplessy Memorial Scholarship Fund, and many other local businesses and organizations – are hosting the Annual ‘National Night Out’ Against Crime. This year the event will be held at Green Acres Mall who is also our major host and sponsor. The Meeting spot at the Green Acres Mall will be (East Side Parking Lot next to Macy’s Men’s/Furniture Gallery) - TONIGHT - Tuesday, Aug. 5, 2014 from 6 – 9 p.m.

‘National Night Out’ is an annual event held in more than 11,000 communities nationwide to increase awareness of crime, gang activity, and violence threatening our neighborhoods.

Now in its 31st year, National Night Out is a free event focusing on building strong ties with law enforcement representatives and community residents to promote safer neighborhoods. ‘National Night Out’ provides an opportunity for the community to generate support for, and participation in, local anticrime efforts; strengthens neighborhood spirit and police/community partnerships; and forges a strong sense of community by establishing partnerships with youths, parents, government, and law enforcement agencies to combat these threats – all while having fun!

Attendees will have the opportunity to speak with their local elected officials and police officers as well as obtain information regarding many county and village services. The event presents a unique opportunity for parents and community leaders to interact with business owners, health service providers, and community-based organizations committed to raising awareness and outreach pertaining to youth-related issues. One of the major goals is to make young people aware of alternatives to engaging in reckless behavior while encouraging them to be leaders in their neighborhood.

This year we are proud to announce Green Acres Mall as our major sponsor. Other participating partners and sponsors include Shanni E. Duplessy Memorial Scholarship Fund, Walgreens, NICE Bus, Valley Stream Lions Club, and Touch of Class Entertainment. Representatives from Amerigroup, Texting Awareness, Zumba, the United States Marine Corps, New York State Troopers, the Holocaust Memorial and Tolerance Center of Nassau County, and the Nassau County Police Department will participate and have informational tables.

Attendees enjoyed a wonderful night out with family and friends. This year is expected to be just as exciting, as Legislator Solages hopes to continue the success of National Night Out 2013. Festivities will commence rain or shine. Several activities have been planned for the event including free food, music, giveaways, and demonstrations by a local fire department.
