Active Parks

The Nassau County Department of Parks, Recreation, and Museums manages more than 30 parks. These include "active" parks, which are large, offer diverse activities, are heavily used by the public, and tend to have full-time, on-site staff; and "passive" parks, which are far smaller and limited to local usage, in many cases consisting of a single athletic field or small "green" area.

Generally, active parks are open from early morning until dusk, with late hours in the summer and later hours for particular winter activities such as ice skating.
