Nassau County Legislator Siela Bynoe (D-Westbury) was proud to honor Hempstead resident Joyce M. Shackley on March 16th at the Seventeenth Annual Trailblazers Awards Ceremony held at the Nassau County Legislature. Ms. Shackley is a longtime member of the Hempstead community. For decades, Ms. Shackley committed herself to helping people throughout her church and kind charitable activities. She has contributed her time and talents to numerous organizations such as the Hempstead Promise Neighborhood Steering Committee, AARP Hempstead Chapter, Nassau County District Attorney’s Crime Prevention Committee, and Nassau County Health Department Taskforce. She currently serves as 1st Vice President of Hempstead NAACP. Ms. Shackley proudly serves as Village of Hempstead Coordinator for the Beautification Project. In this role, she helps beautify the community by recruiting local college students to assist in designing Village streetscapes and cleaning up the downtown area.
