(ALBANY, N.Y.) – Nassau County Legislator Carrié Solages (D – Valley Stream) – the first Haitian American elected to the Legislature in 2011 – met legendary Haitian American musician and producer Wyclef Jean during the New York State Legislature’s Black, Puerto Rican, Hispanic and Asian Legislative Caucus Weekend on Feb. 15-16. “I finally had the chance to tell Wyclef how important he has been for the culture and how he helped me as a young man form my identity despite negative images relating to the Haitian American experience,” Legislator Solages said. “Thank you to caucus Chair Michaelle Solages and all of her State colleagues for hosting this important and inspiring event.”
