WHAT: Nassau County Legislator Siela A. Bynoe (D - Westbury), Nassau County Comptroller Jack Schnirman and North Hempstead Town Councilwoman Viviana Russell are partnering to host a 2020 Census Job Fair in Westbury. The goal is to engage and employ local residents in the Census process in order to ensure the size of diverse populations across the County are counted and recorded accurately.
Minority communities are frequently under-counted in the Census. In a nationwide study, African Americans and Hispanic Americans are at risk of being undercounted nationally by as much as 3.68 percent, according to a study published by the Urban Institute. Such a miscount in the 2020 Census could result in minority communities not receiving a fair and appropriate share of proportionally allocated funding, government resources and representation in the House of Representatives, Census experts warn.
