MINEOLA, NY – Deputy Presiding Officer Howard Kopel was joined by, Legislators Mazi Melesa Pilip, Rose Marie Walker and Tom McKevitt, Deputy County Executive for Health & Human Services Anissa Moore, Dr. Irina Gelman, Commissioner of Health, Comptroller Elaine Phillips, Colette Coyne of Colette Coyne Melanoma Awareness Campaign, Garden City Dermatologist Dr. Ted Daly, and skin cancer survivors earlier today to discuss what steps can be taken to prevent Melanoma, the importance of regular check-ups, and other tips to stay safe in the sun in honor of Melanoma Awareness Month.
Nassau County Legislator Rose Marie Walker stated “As we head into the warmer weather, and spend our days at the park, a ballgame, or the beach, I want to remind everyone to take proactive measures by wearing sunscreen, hats, and UV clothing, even on cloudy days. This year an estimated 100,000 adults will be diagnosed with Melanoma, but early detection is key and can save lives. So be sure to schedule yearly check-ups to stay safe!”
The Colette Coyne Melanoma Awareness Campaign in conjunction with Nassau County, Belaray Dermatology and Garden City Dermatology are hosting FREE Skin Cancer Screenings on Saturday May 13, 2023, beginning at 9:00 AM during the 17th Annual Long Island Miles for Melanoma - Steps to Stop Skin Cancer Walk in Eisenhower Park, parking field 2. Additional information can be found by visiting ccmac.org.
