NASSAU COUNTY LEGISLATIVE MAJORITY PROPOSES CUTTING ALMOST $100 MILLION DOLLARS IN COUNTY FEES

NASSAU COUNTY LEGISLATIVE MAJORITY PROPOSES CUTTING ALMOST 100 MILLION DOLLARS IN COUNTY FEES

Calls on the County Executive to Submit a Budget That Cuts Taxes

The Nassau County Legislature Republican Majority introduced a bill to cut $96 Million Dollars in county fees that would be incurred by hundreds of thousands of Nassau residents. This money will be made up with tens of tens of millions of dollars of excess sales tax revenue over the projected sales tax revenue in the county budget.

They also urged the County Executive to submit a county budget that includes a tax cut for all Nassau Residents. The County Executive is required to submit her budget by September 15th.

Reports show that for this year's budget the county is projected to take in $300 million more than the administration projected. In comparison to 2019, before the pandemic, this year the county will take in $130 million more in sales tax revenues than in 2019.

"After the county executive vetoed millions of dollars tax cuts proposed by the Legislature in last year's budget, the Majority will eliminate almost $100 million dollars in county fees paid by residents, to keep more money in their pockets where it belongs." Said Presiding Officer Richard Nicolello. "This will help our small businesses, seniors, residents refinancing, paying off mortgages or buying homes in Nassau County. I urge the county executive to support getting rid of these fees and cut taxes to give our residents the financial relief they deserve."

"I am proud to stand with Nassau's seniors, veterans, and working class families to cut more than $100 Million in county fees and urge the County Executive to cut taxes in this year's budget. As residents continue to struggle with the effects of the County Executive's reassessment, this will provide much needed relief to the tens of thousands of taxpayers struggling to afford to keep living in our communities. Especially those on fixed incomes," said Legislator Bill Gaylor (R, Lynbrook). "I urge the County Executive to support these concrete measures that will make Nassau County more affordable."

This bill will be passed through legislative committees on September 13th, and through the full legislature two weeks later on September 27th. It would then have to be signed by the County Executive.
