Nassau County Department of Human Services, Office for the Aging was granted Age Friendly status Fall 2019. The Office was awarded two prestigious grants in January 2020 to continue working on Age Friendly projects; one in partnership with the City of Glen Cove/Glen Cove Senior Center.
What is Age Friendly?
An age-friendly world enables people of all ages to actively participate in community activities and treats everyone with respect, regardless of their age. It is a place that makes it easy for older people to stay connected to people that are important to them.
The following 8-Domains of Livability are used as framework to determine Age Friendly Communities:
- Outdoor Spaces and Building
- Transportation
- Housing
- Social Participation
- Respect and Social Inclusion
- Civic Participation and Employment
- Communication
- Community and Health Services
