BUS TRANSPORTATION
The Nassau Inter County Express (NICE) system is responsible for providing fixed-route bus transportation service in Nassau County.  

ABLE-RIDE/PARATRANSIT PROGRAM
In compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act, the Nassau Inter County Express (NICE) system provides a shared ride, curb-to-curb ‘paratransit’ service for persons who have a physical or mental disability and are unable to use the fixed route bus service. Age, or inability to drive are not taken into consideration in making an eligibility determination. Reservations and advance notice are required.

The following are services provided by Towns and Cities:

CITY OF LONG BEACH BUSES
 
Residents of the City of Long Beach, age 60 and over, may ride the local buses at half fare during non-rush hours and all day on weekends. An official identification card can be obtained at Long Beach City Hall Transportation Director’s Office at (516) 431-4445.  Shoppers can  travel at half fare, for scheduling information, call the “Shoppers Special “at (516) 431-4445.

Town of Hempstead
Contact the Department of Senior Enrichment for dates and times at local centers at (516) 485-8100.

Town of North Hempstead
Project Independence provides free taxi transportation for residents 60+, and discounted non-emergency medical transportation. Call 311 or (516)869-6311.

Older Adults age 65 and over may use their Medicare card, driver’s license or birth certificate at any ticket office. The railroad reserves the right to ask for additional personal identification or a signature sample. For information, call:

MEDICAL TRANSPORTATION

Medicaid recipients may be eligible for transportation for medical purposes, depending upon their physical condition. For further information, call:

VETERAN TRANSPORTATION

The Nassau County Office for the Aging launched a new Transportation Pilot Program for Older Adults who are Veterans. This Transportation Pilot Program is through Go-Go Grandparent which is funded by NYS Office for the Aging.

Go-Go Grandparent is a phone service that connects to UBER and LIFT without the need to use an app.  It is available to bring any Senior Veteran to and from their medical appointments.  They may bring a companion with them. 

There is no mileage cap as long, as their medical appointment is in Nassau County. In addition, transportation to the VA Hospital in Suffolk is included.
