Nassau County Legislator John Ferretti joined with Legislator Tom McKevitt, Legislator Rose Marie Walker, Legislator Steve Rhoads, Councilman Dennis Dunne and Nassau County Correction Officers Benevolent Association President Brian Sullivan to hold a town hall meeting on the dangers of Albany’s new cashless bail “reforms” The meeting was at Levittown Hall in Hicksville.
Over 130 residents attended the meeting and voiced their concerns about the legislation. Questions from residents ranged from what they can do to help get the new ‘reforms’ repealed, how this is affecting Nassau County Police officers, and what types of crimes are no longer eligible for bail, to concerns over the similarly worrisome discovery reforms.
Legislator Ferretti stated, “If our Albany legislators aren’t going to educate the public on these disastrous ‘reforms’, I will. As drug dealers, burglars, scammers, gang members and more continue to be released back into our community only to reoffend, I encourage everyone to contact their state representatives and urge them to repeal these ‘reforms’ now, before more law abiding residents are hurt or worse.”
