As the result of an error made by the Nassau County Department of Assessment, Ann Mazze was incorrectly declared dead by the county, causing her to lose her Enhanced STAR recipient status, other tax exemptions, and pay thousands of dollars extra in taxes. After months of unanswered calls, emails, letters and ultimately a press conference held by Legislator John Ferretti on her behalf, Mazze, a 94 year old Levittown resident was finally reimbursed by the county after months of unnecessary frustration and stress.
Legislator Ferretti sponsored legislation that passed unanimously through the legislature that corrected the error and allowed for Ms. Mazze to be reimbursed.
“This was unfortunately just the latest consequence of the County Executive’s reassessment. After thousands of errors have already been uncovered, this egregious error was indefensible. I am glad that after more than six months of stress and frustration, this issue has finally been corrected and Ann was reimbursed.”
