FERRETTI AND NASSAU LEGISLATURE APPROVE RED LIGHT CAMERA SIGNAGE LEGISLATION
Nassau County Legislator John R. Ferretti, Jr. and the Nassau County Legislature passed legislation which requires all red light camera intersections to have signage that indicates the presence of the cameras, and specifies the exact location drivers must stop prior to making a legal right turn on red.
“The purpose of the red light camera program is to make our roads safer for drivers,” Legislator Ferretti said. “But to ticket drivers after legally making a right on red, or stopping too far over the white line does not fulfill the intent of the program. Too many residents have been given red light camera tickets for this exact reason. This must stop. This new legislation will put up signage so drivers know there are cameras, and know where to stop.”
Tickets are issued if a driver does not make a full stop before making a legal right turn on red, or if they drive through an intersection at a red light.
